August is traditionally a month full of summer holiday plans with certain sectors of the economy often quieter than others and others enjoying their peak trading seasons. Like many things in 2020, this year is different.
The Chamber is continuing to support our members in all sectors and is currently developing our plans for the remainder of 2020 to ensure that the business community has access to the latest news, analysis and support – ensuring that we look towards the remainder of the year and that collectively we are in the best possible place to tackle the challenges ahead and embrace the opportunities.
However you have spent August, and whatever you are facing at the moment; rest assured the Chamber and the team are here to help.
BUSINESS FESTIVAL EVENT TICKETS NOW LIVE
Tickets to events in the 2020 Black Country Business Festival fortnight are now live.
The Festival takes place from 5th to 15th of October and comprises over 80 different workshops, seminars, expos, conferences and networking opportunities which are a mix of digital and actual physical events.
The events are all being run by local organisations under the umbrella of the Black Country Business Festival. Each one is designed to help other businesses and individuals by sharing ideas and information, innovations, adaptations and creating opportunities that will ultimately help other businesses and overall economic growth.
Events are completely free to attend (but must be booked in advance) and topics vary across all the eight key sectors: Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive, Business Support & Communications, Creative Industries, Education and Skills, Professional Services, Property, Infrastructure & Construction and Retail, Tourism and Hospitality.
Examples of the type of events in the programme include Wolverhampton Black Business Network's annual business conference 2020, which will see key guests speak on various topics concerning the business of the minorities in the area.
Talbots Law, the West Midlands Ambulance Service, Intu, DWP and Mary Stevens Hospice have joined forces to form the Disability Confident Action Group and are running a breakfast event to explain the Disability Confident scheme, how it can help businesses to retain and recruit the right team of people and the different levels and support options available.
HugglePets will also be giving top hints and tips on how to build a sustainable business in the retail sector as Director, Mike Dixon, shares his creative approach to high street regeneration through the story of how he built the HugglePets brand across the UK.
Corin Crane, Chief Executive of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, which initiated the BCBF three years ago, told Prosper, "The programme is looking really exciting and I am delighted that the majority of event organisers were able to pick up their events and transfer them from May to the new dates in October.
"The Festival will take on a whole new level of importance this year due to the pandemic circumstances. It presents a unique opportunity for our businesses and individuals to get back into the community and re-engage, as well as playing an important part in injecting renewed optimism into our economy.
"The events are free, and people can go to as many as they wish, so there's everything to gain by attending. I would encourage everyone to take a look at the website and see what's on offer."
Tickets to events are free but must be booked in advance, and are now available through the Business Festival website blackcountrybusinessfestival.com. Events are split by sector to make it easy to browse and sort.
The BCBF relies on sponsorship from organisations in the Black Country and the 2020 Festival Partners include the University of Wolverhampton, Talbots Law, Dudley Business First, Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership and the Black Country Growth Hub.
Sponsoring the Festival are Wolverhampton Racecourse, Thomas Dudley, Casino36 and M6toll. The Festival is also supported by Gecko Programmes, Sandwell Council and Walsall Council with media partners, Elonex, Signal 107 and Metro and app partner, Infonote.
