FORGING A FUTURE TO THE MIDDLE EAST
Black Country based Barton Engineering, manufacturers of premium quality steel conduit and metallic electrical cable management systems, are forging a future in exports to the Middle East.
The business was founded in the late 1890s in Netherton, Dudley as Barton & Sons, later becoming Barton Conduits Ltd in the 1930s and Barton Engineering Ltd in 1987.
Liberty House Group acquired the Barton business and assets when it rescued the Caparo group of companies at the end of 2015. Liberty Precision Tubes Ltd, based in Oldbury, own the worldwide Intellectual Property Rights, and produce Barton conduit at their mill.
Barton pride themselves on being a market leading brand with a unique 130-year history and this year are celebrating their 40th anniversary supplying major projects in the Gulf.
Back in 2005 company bosses recognised that they needed to establish a physical presence in the Middle East, in order for them to really establish their brand and their products in the market, having previously used the traditional model of field visits.
Richard Botting who was Barton’s Managing Director at that time said, “We took the decision to open the Middle East branch to increase support of our existing customer base and more importantly to expand throughout the region. I was asked to set up the operation and relocated with my family on a two-year contract – I’ve been here ever since!”
Liberty Building Solutions was set up as Liberty’s Middle East distribution business located in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai and supported the Barton range into the market.
This partnership has been a key element to developing Barton into a 21st century customer-focused global business dedicated to serving clients in more than 20 countries in sectors including construction and infrastructure, rail, marine and aviation, healthcare and education, power generation, distribution, and data centre industries.
Barton products have been used in prestigious mega-projects across the region including Burj Khalifa, Meydan Racecourse, Yas Marina GP Circuit, Dubai Metro, Qatar National Museum, Mall of Qatar and many more.
Liberty Building Solutions have recently moved into larger premises and are diversifying, offering to support other businesses in the Black Country and across the UK through a partnership approach, Richard told Prosper, “I am keen to use my experience in establishing the Barton brand in the lucrative Middle East markets with other engineering technology, product and service businesses, that have the potential to succeed in the region.
“We can help to open up opportunities here and provide business support, local market opportunities, warehousing, and logistics. Liberty already has partnerships with several companies including Liberty Precision Tubes in Oldbury, as well as other businesses in the UK, China and Taiwan.
Richard, now CEO of Liberty Building Solutions, continued "We have excellent working relationships with key clients, infrastructure, contractors, technical consultants, local business houses, and relevant government bodies. Combined with our extensive experience and expertise in the Middle East, this puts us in an excellent position to partner any UK business that is aiming to expand in this region."
Barton and Liberty Building Solutions are working with the Department of International Transport International Trade Adviser Heather Crocker based at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and Rashid Khawaja, Trade & Investment Advisor (Construction and Water sectors) based in the UK Embassy in Dubai, to raise awareness of the opportunities in the Middle East markets, find the best route to sell their products and services secure new business and increase export sales.
